STATE OF BLACK SUSTAINABILITY REPORT:
INDUSTRY HOUSE SUMMARY
Community Development
The Community Development IH is composed of members who are designing and developing community spaces with innovative approaches to historical challenges. As research into this IH was conducted, focus group participants and past summit presenters highlighted past efforts to build a sustainable community of agrarian stewards, farmers, practitioners and educators, often around a piece of land. Common goals included creating wealth, jobs, and training pathways for the community to create necessary and value-adding products, managing the land collectively by incorporating regenerative practices, and providing a safe space for Afrikan and indigenous people to be at home.
There is a discernible loss of African values, a disconnect from the innate natural environment within and around the Black community. The urgency of re-establishing a connection to the rich tapestry of nature, both internal and external, is highlighted as an essential means of fostering cultural resilience and harmony within the community.
